Local Fishing and Fisherman's Commemorative Park
The BIA committee made the decision to work on a project that would focus on the history of Richibucto and in particular on the history of fishing: a green space where people could see a piece of woodwork art made by a local artist. It would include a fisherman sitting on a lobster cage surrounded by all the different fish and crustaceans from our region. This cage would also allow people to sit down and be photographed and would include an anchor to support our slogan: Drop anchor with us! Trees, flowers and benches would embellish the land, and would be complimented by the Richibucto River.
Furthermore, interpretation boards would be installed in the park along the existing footbridge and also on the small island that is part of this land and acts as a breakwater. These boards would explain Richibucto's story from fishing to the Rum Runners. Finally, an island adjacent to this land that serves as a breakwater for the wharf would be developed so that it can be reached on foot and allow people to enjoy the Richibucto River more closely.
