The Town of Richibucto was incorporated in 1967 as a village, following an economic boom and numerous commercial, industrial and residential developments. The status of the municipality changed to that of Town, in June of 1985.

Geographically situated at 100 kilometers north of Moncton, the town covers an area of 11.4 square kilometers, with a population of 1,314 inhabitants. Bordered by the majestic Richibucto River, the main business and real estate activities have developed along its coasts. The Town is accessible via Route 11 and Route 134, as well as by water, for fishing and pleasure boats.

Town Council
The town council is elected through municipal elections, for a 4-year term. The voters in the municipality elect a mayor and four councilors. Each councilor, over and above the various committees he or she sits on, is assigned a municipal file where he or she will become the resource person and the town representative in this particular file.
