Richibucto has always been considered the Kent region business centre. Moreover, it was the ‘Shiretown’ of Kent County in matters of health, education, justice and social aid, until 1966. The jurisdiction of the county was assumed by 15 district councilors until the time came for the province of New Brunswick to assume overall management and abolish jurisdiction by the counties.

Today, Richibucto is the commercial and business centre in the North and Central Kent regions, serving a target market of over 12,000 inhabitants. The various industries, businesses and government agencies located within the municipality employ no less than 1,000 people.

The retail business and the food and lodging establishments are displaying more and more franchise and chain banners, a sure sign of effervescence in this sector.
